One of the exciting capabilities of blockchains is decentralized applications or DApps. As we mentioned in our previous articles, DApps popularity among developers and users has grown rapidly in the past few years. There are thousands of DApps on different blockchains that make it difficult to choose one from this enormous list. In this article, we will review some of the most popular DApps that are worth your time.
But What is DApp?
As explained in our previous articles, DApps are similar to applications you have on your mobile or laptop. The big difference is that instead of a centralized server, DApps are run on top of a decentralized platform, blockchain. There are several blockchains in the market, so which one is better? Maybe we can’t select one blockchain as the best platform; however, here are some of the most successful ones:
Ethereum was released in 2015 by programmer Vitalik Buterin. It is currently the most actively used blockchain globally. Its native cryptocurrency, Ether, is the second-largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization, after Bitcoin. Despite the widespread usage of this blockchain for developing DApps, it has a big drawback, transaction fees. This blockchain has a higher transaction fee compared to many other blockchains.
It was founded in 2015 by Da HongFei and Erik Zhang. Compared to Ethereum, this blockchain handles a higher number of transactions, but the fees are still high. In some cases, transaction fees are even higher than that of the Ethereum network.
Founded in late 2017 but shortly become a serious rival of Ethereum due to its advantages. The Tron blockchain offers a high speed with low transaction fees. It can conduct around 2000 transactions per second. This high speed makes Tron a suitable platform for gaming DApps.
It is a new blockchain, released in June 2018, and developed by the private company “block.one”. This platform is growing and currently deals with around 50,000 daily users.
Number 2: IPSE

This search engine’s users can save and share data on the decentralized network, quickly search files, and get tokens as rewards.
IPSE’s goal is to replace HTTP and build the next generation of the internet, Web3.0.
